Big Lost River and Tributaries
The headwaters of the Lost River drainage begin in the Pioneer and Boulder Mountains. The East and West Fork descend from Pioneers into Copper Basins high desert, a dramatic landscape of small streams and tall mountains. The North Fork begins in the Boulder Mountains and meets with the East Fork to form the Main Lost River. These tributaries are classic freestone streams. Cutthroat, rainbow, brook trout and the native white fish can be found.
Below Mackay dam the Lost is a small tailwater stream with many rainbow trout and passes by the Lost River Range and Idaho's tallest peak, Mt. Borah. The Lost finally disappears into the volcanic lava flows of Southern Idaho before re-emerging at Thousand Springs.
